LOGAN — Utah State only trailed Colorado State briefly and came up with a big 33-18 conference win on a rain-soaked homecoming night Saturday.

Viewers of the Mountain West Conference showdown witnessed the first start of the season for sophomore quarterback Kent Myers, or "K2" as Aggie fans often refer to the dual-threat signal-caller, and social media users were abuzz with excitement.

Utah State's first score came from the foot of kicker Jake Thompson after a Colorado State penalty allowed him an extra 5 yards to try a long attempt.

The Rams responded with a field goal and followed it up with one of their best drives of the game to take a 10-3 lead, but it wouldn't last.

Utah State's defense forced the visitors to punt on their next two possessions, and Myers showed his quickness getting to the edge to put the Aggies in front.

The touchdown made it 17-10 game at the half, and the halftime break was much longer than expected due to a lengthy lightning delay.

Fans were advised to find shelter, but some chose to wait it out in the rain.

Colorado State got the ball to start the third quarter, and on its second play of the half, David Moala burst through the line to hammer Rams quarterback Nick Stevens in the back.

Brock Warren hit his first of three field goals on the night to give Utah State its first two-score lead, the defense pushed Colorado State backward on the Rams' next drive, and Myers again flashed his playmaking ability with his feet.

The Rowlett, Texas, native had already set a single-game Utah State rushing record from the quarterback position, and he was just getting started.

Colorado State made it deep into Aggie territory, but a fumble gave the ball back to Myers, who used his arm to get Utah State down the field and into field-goal range.

A 16-point advantage, combined with a stout Aggie defense, had the Logan school's fans who stuck around feeling good despite the inclement weather.

The Rams answered with a long touchdown drive and tacked on a two-point conversion to move within one score. After the subsequent Utah State drive stalled, Aggie fans came alive to give their team's defense a lift.

LaJuan Hunt then put the game out of reach.

Jalen Davis was denied an interception when a referee got in his path, but Davis later sealed a strong performance by the Utah State defense with an interception in the end zone to cap off the Aggies' 15-point win.
