PROVO — The Utah native Waffle Love food truck came in second place during the season finale of Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race" Sunday.
Founder Adam Terry and his brothers, Steve and Jared, competed with champions Pho Nomenal Dumplings in Chicago for the grand prize of $50,000.
According to Food Network, show host Tyler Florence challenged the companies to make three different dishes in just 30 minutes and serve them to two of the top grill chefs in St. Louis during their time in Missouri. The winner of that challenge would get a head start to Chicago.
The final showdown in Chicago saw the teams selling in three different ethnic neighborhoods with three separate ethnic dishes. Their objective was to be the first to sell 50 dishes in each area.
Pho Nomenal Dumplings were set back when Florence told them the 50 dishes they sold in what they thought was Greektown were actually outside the boundaries of the neighborhood, making their sells not count.
But in the end, the dumpling truck crossed the finish line before Waffle Love, winning the prize money.
Terry expressed his disappointment on the show, but he told KSL.com earlier this month that he feels the show exposed people around the country to their brand.
