COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A mother revived her 2-year-old son after he fell into a pool and nearly drowned Friday afternoon.
The boy was playing at the side of an in-ground pool at a home near 1400 East and Siesta Drive and fell in for anywhere between one and four minutes, according to the Unified Fire Authority.
The boy's mother called 911 about 4:45 p.m. and began CPR, said Cottonwood Heights Police Lt. Mark Askerlund. Dispatchers walked her through the steps as she attempted to revive her son.
The boy was breathing but not conscious when emergency responders arrived at the home, Askerlund said. He regained consciousness and was crying before being flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital.
The woman was there with two other children, Askerlund said. Police don't believe she was being negligent.
"She was there with him, she looked away briefly, turned around and he was at the bottom of the pool," Askerlund said.
