LOGAN — Two families with young children were displaced by a fire Saturday morning at a fourplex at 360 W. 550 North.

The fire, which broke out around 9 a.m., was largely confined to two units, with the blaze burning a hole in the roof and causing smoke damage. The other units were damaged by smoke, but occupants of the downstairs apartments were allowed to return to them Saturday afternoon, according to Logan Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys.

All 13 residents of the fourplex safely evacuated the structure after one resident woke to the smell of smoke and told the others to get out of the building.

Humphreys said the fire appears to have been started by electrical wiring, but the investigation is ongoing. Damages to the fourplex is estimated to be about $100,000, he said.

The American Red Cross Northern Utah Chapter was assisting the displaced families.
