NORTH SALT LAKE — A Bountiful man has died from injuries he sustained Monday morning when his motorcycle ran into the back of a pickup truck on I-15.

The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. near 2600 South on southbound I-15. A white Dodge Dakota "stopped in the HOV lane for an unknown reason and was struck from behind by a motorcycle," according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle rider, identified as Robert C. Jones, 39, was taken to an area hospital by helicopter but ultimately died from his injuries.

The helicopter landing forced the closure of all southbound lanes for about 40 minutes, but incident caused major traffic delays for several hours. The entire freeway was reopened just before 12:30 p.m.
