PROVO — Today's Cougar Clicks is dedicated to the walk-ons of college football, the guys who play the game for love and often hold one or two jobs on the side so they can afford tuition.

Think former BYU standouts like Chad Lewis and Christian Stewart, who both began the careers sans scholarships, or current tailback Nate Carter. These are the people who want nothing more than to gain a scholarship.

Here's more of what the Internet is saying about BYU.

Walk on up

Walk-ons are the life blood of most college football programs in the country. But at BYU, with players regularly leaving on two-year LDS Church missions, they can be the difference between success and failure every year.

Fox Sports takes a look at some potential candidates to receive two scholarships head coach Bronco Mendenhall plans to award to his walk-on candidates. The Cougar coach said he would announce the pair of scholarship winners by early next week. Running back Carter and H-back Mitchell Juergens are among the top candidates to each receive a scholarship — which is a big deal for Carter, writes Deseret News columnist Dick Harmon.

BYU hoops goes 4-0 in preseason trip to Spain

The Cougars wrapped up a four-game, 10-day trip to Spain with four wins over three teams from Spain's lower divisions as well as the European Basketball Academy.

BYU averaged 87.2 points per game through the road trip, and allowed just 63.8 points with the closest win coming by 21 points against Eurocolegio Casvi.

Front-court depth was an option for the first time in two years, with Kyle Davis, Jamal Aytes and Corbin Kaufusi aiding veteran Nate Austin as an inside presence. If the preseason is an indicator, BYU may be done with the days of playing a four-guard lineup, barring injury or other withdrawals.

Kyle Collinsworth also continued his pursuit of the quadruple-double, averaging 12.3 points, 7.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 1.3 blocks per game in 26.3 minutes. Collinsworth, who is already the NCAA's all-time leader in triple-doubles in a season and career, will look to add to his storied career as a senior this winter.

No. 11 BYU women's soccer exacts revenges, shuts out Colorado

The first college football Saturday has yet to kick off in Provo, and two BYU squads are finding themselves among the top 10 teams in the nation.

BYU's women's soccer and women's volleyball teams were each ranked No. 11 in their respective national polls last week, and the women's soccer team appears primed to move up after beating Colorado 2-0 to move to 2-0 on the season with three wins against Pac 12 opponents (including a 3-2 exhibition win over Arizona and a 2-0 win over then-No. 18 Cal).

The Cougars return several standout players, including MAC Hermann Trophy candidate Ashley Hatch and veteran forward Michele Murphy Vasconcelos, midfield standouts Bizzy Phillips and Elena Medeiros, and newcomer goalkeeper Rachel Boaz — who already has two shutouts under her belt after transferring from Sweet 16-bound San Diego State last year.

The Cougars play at Nebraska on Monday night in a game that will be broadcast by KSL's Greg Wrubell and the Cougar IMG Sports Network. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT.
