TOOELE — A volunteer Tooele High School track coach accused of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl on the team has pleaded guilty to reduced charges.

In a plea deal, Terrence Boone Johnson, 22, pleaded guilty Tuesday to unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, reduced to a class A misdemeanor. He was originally charged with forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

A second charge of felony sexual abuse of a minor student was dismissed.

Police reported that Johnson had sexual activity with the teenager in the basement of his Tooele home in May. He was arrested and charged in June.

The 15-year-old girl said in an interview at the Children's Justice Center that "she had engaged in a sexual relationship" with Johnson, the charges state.

Johnson's account to police, including details about his alleged advances, matched the substance of what the girl originally reported, according to charging documents.

"Mr. Johnson said he and the victim started 'making out' after she asked him to pick her up from school one day," the charges state.

Investigators believe Johnson's offense was an isolated incident.

Sentencing has been set for Oct. 20.
