OREM — Police asked for the public's help Thursday in finding a woman believed to have caused a hit-and-run accident that put a pregnant woman in the hospital.

On Aug. 12, a vehicle exiting the parking lot at Target, 175 W. Center, hit the passenger side of a vehicle traveling on Center Street, Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez said.

The driver who police say caused the accident drove off without offering help. The victim, identified as Christina Crawley, is seven months' pregnant, and was hospitalized for "significant injuries," Martinez said.

Crawley said Thursday that she is still advised against staying on her feet more than an hour at a time to avoid premature labor or other pregnancy complications. She works as a nurse but has had to cut back on her hours because of her uncertain condition.

"It's terrifying, really, because I don't know how things are going to change," Crawley said.

She doesn't know if she hurt anybody. ... I was just in shock. No witnesses stayed and so here we are, sitting on the side of the road, and I'm like, 'Why did everybody leave?'

The hit-and-run has also made driving a tense experience for Crawley and her 6-year-old son, Joshua, who was also in the car during the crash.

"He's always afraid that if somebody's coming up to the exit of a parking lot that they're going to just keep coming," she said.

Crawley hired a lawyer to help her sort through car insurance issues while police look for the driver responsible for the crash.

She said she is still flabbergasted that a person could drive away from the crash without a concern for her or her son.

"She doesn't know if she hurt anybody," Crawley said. "I was just in shock. No witnesses stayed and so here we are, sitting on the side of the road, and I'm like, 'Why did everybody leave?'"

Store surveillance video released Thursday shows a woman believed to be the driver, as well as her car just before the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to call Orem police at 801-229-7070.
