SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police are looking for two men who attempted to carjack a woman in South Salt Lake.

Sgt. Darren Carr of the South Salt Lake Police Department said just before 11 p.m. Thursday, the woman was talking on a phone in her car near 3900 South and 700 West. Two men approached her. One pulled out a gun and they told her they were taking her car.

She said the man racked the gun and pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. Police were investigating whether the gun misfired or was a fake, Carr said.

The two men fumbled with the keys and failed to start the car, according to Carr.

He said the person talking on the phone with the woman called friends in nearby apartments. They arrived and intervened, and the men fled.

No detailed description of the man was available. Carr said this appears to be a crime of opportunity and the woman did not know the would-be carjackers.
