PROVO — In today's roundup of "news that may affect BYU sports," the Cougar fanbase put a national writer on Twitter blast, women's basketball released its nonconference schedule, and Taysom Hill is among college football's 'most intriguing' quarterbacks in 2015.

BYU fans put national writer on Twitter blast

Count USA Today sportswriter and columnist Dan Wolken as a man who apparently isn't welcome by everyone in Provo.

Wolken said on Salt Lake City radio station 1280 The Zone that BYU fans on social media were among the worst he's dealt with.

"BYU fans on social media are awful," he said. "The BYU presence on social media, in terms of their fanbase, are vicious."

Wolken also wasn't making many friends with this tweet after his appearance.

Might have to start doing a daily ranking of which fan bases are most upset with me. Today, BYU wins by a mile.— Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) July 22, 2015

Wolken was referring to some comments he received after publishing this USA Today story on Taysom Hill's summer internship, which was mentioned in this space before but should be read by anyone hasn't yet.

Women's hoops releases nonconference schedule

The BYU women's basketball team released the nonconference portion of their schedule Tuesday morning, and it includes a road-heavy slate of eight contests away from the Marriott Center.

"This is probably the hardest nonconference schedule we've had in my time here," BYU women's coach Jeff Judkins said in a statement. "We are going to be playing some of the top women's basketball programs in the country, many of which are favored to win their respective conference titles."

The defending West Coast Conference Tournament champions open the season Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. against Utah Valley, then hit the road immediately for back-to-back games at Oklahoma on Nov. 19 and at Colorado State on Nov. 21.

After a home game against Utah State on Nov. 24, BYU has consecutive road tournaments at Cal State Northridge and BYU-Hawaii, before returning to the Wasatch Front on Dec. 10 at Weber State.

The Cougars wrap up non-conference play at home against Utah at 2 p.m Dec. 12.

Taysom Hill among 'most intriguing' college quarterbacks of 2015

He may not be the best, or the most popular, but Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde ranks BYU quarterback Taysom Hill as one of the most intriguing college quarterbacks in 2015.

"Hill's fearless running style and manic pocket presence always make you wonder what will happen next," writes Forde, who ranked the BYU senior at No. 20 on the annual list.

The most intriguing quarterback in the country, according to Forde, is "whoever starts at Ohio State," while the second-most intriguing quarterback is "the backup at Ohio State."

If 2014 is a rubric, though, those two players may be one and the same by the end of the season.

Williams' hometown chimes in on withdrawal from BYU

A writer from the hometown newspaper of Rialto, California-born Jamaal Williams, who withdrew from BYU last week for personal reasons, offered a few thoughts on what the Cougars will miss from their running back who will redshirt in 2015.

"There is no doubt that BYU, with Hill at the helm, has the potential be a very explosive team and an exciting one to watch," writes Russell Ingold of the Fontana Herald-News. "Hill is outstanding as both a passer and runner, and the Cougars will be helped by senior Devon Blackmon, another Summit star, who will be one of the team's top receivers.

"But the Cougars' great offense has been taken down a notch due to the loss of Williams."
