NORTH OGDEN — A 20-year-old Ogden man dragged a 12-year-old girl to a Dumpster enclosure outside a health care clinic to assault her, according to charges.

Martize DeAngelo Washington, 20, of Ogden, was charged Tuesday in 2nd District Court with rape of a child, a first-degree felony.

Washington and the girl met through Facebook and sent messages back and forth, according to charging documents.

Last week, Washington sent the girl a message on Facebook telling her to meet him at Smith's, 2560 N. 400 East, charging documents stated. After meeting at the store, he and the girl walked toward a nearby Intermountain Healthcare Clinic, where Washington forced her into the corner of a Dumpster enclosure and attacked her, according to court records.

"The victim said she screamed for help, and he told her to stop or she would be sorry," charging documents stated.

After the alleged assault, the girl ran back to Smith's, first banged on the window of the gas station attendant and then the front door of the store, but both were closed. She then ran home where she told her mother what happened. The girl's mother took her daughter to a local hospital and police were contacted.

The girl's run for help was captured by surveillance video from Smith's and the clinic, according to the charges. The video also shows Washington trying to get in the front doors of the clinic after the attack, the charges state.

Police found Washington at Motel 6, 1455 Washington Blvd., on Saturday and arrested him. He claimed he had just met the girl at Smith's and she then ran away, according to the charges. Washington later admitted being in the Dumpster enclosure with the girl but denied having intercourse, according to the charges.

In May, Washington was charged in North Ogden Justice Court with theft, a class B misdemeanor, according to Utah court records. A pretrial conference in that case is scheduled for Aug. 17.
