FISHLAKE NATIONAL FOREST — A lightning-caused fire has grown to 1,104 acres since its July 19 sparking, affecting nearby areas with its plumes of smoke.

Saturday morning, officials reported Solitude Fire's size at 378 acres, but westerly winds quickly pushed the fire to the east and upslope at times that day, according to US Forest Service hydrologist Adam Solt. The fire was 25 percent contained as of Sunday morning and firefighters were managing the blaze as a means of improving the habitat, reducing dead fuels and creating openings in the conifer forest for aspen rejuvenation in the Pahvant Range.

Firefighters burned vegetation along Forest Road 96 and the forest service said other burning operations may occur in tandem with the forest fire.

Smoke was visible from Sevier and Millard counties and drifting smoke was visible in surrounding areas, Solt reported. Residents may notice a higher concentration of smoke in the mornings, the forest service said.

No evacuations or closures are currently in place, though the forest service said if fire conditions mandate it, FR 96 could temporarily close along the top of the mountain from White Pine Peak Junction to the Chalk Creek Road Junction.
