SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz SG Alec Burks will travel to The Philippines this week to represent the Jazz in NBA FIT week.

Burks will be joined in Mandaluyong City by Milwaukee Bucks SF Khris Middleton and former Nuggets coach Brian Shaw, as the instructors teach "elite Filipino athletes and coaches" the latest in basketball, fitness, conditioning and nutrition. The event will take place at the Gatorade NBA Training Center on Wednesday.

About his visit, Burks said in a release, "I'm honored to have been asked to go to the Philippines and to be able to represent the Jazz there for NBA FIT Week. This is a great way to share the game of basketball and to give back to these elite athletes."

Basketball is the most popular sport in the Philippines, having been introduced during the country's era of American rule. The Philippine Basketball Association is the second oldest continuously existing basketball league in the world, after the NBA. This year, the country set a record for having 52,612 in attendance for the league's opening ceremonies.

Backcourt mate Trey Burke will also be traveling this week. He's headed to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the NBA's first-ever NBA Africa game, featuring the NBA stars from Africa facing off against those from around the world.

Jazz head coach Quin Snyder also has traveled overseas this summer, attending a four-day basketball camp in Havana that marked the NBA's first visit to Cuba since President Obama restored some diplomatic relations to that country.
