WEST VALLEY CITY — Police have identified a man killed in a home invasion Saturday as Steven Louis Valdez, 63.

Valdez was shot and killed in a struggle with three people who broke into the home at 4150 S. Blue Jay Street (4985 West) about 1:15 a.m. Saturday.

Police found Valdez dead in the home with the sliding glass door open amid signs of a struggle in the kitchen.

Investigators later determined that up to three people had forced their way into the home and confronted the homeowner and the victim. The intruders were all dressed in black and had bandanas over their faces, according to a West Valley police spokeswoman.

The trio fled in a dark-colored, large Suburban-style SUV and were still at large Sunday.

No additional information about the home invasion was released Sunday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call West Valley police at 801-840-4000.
