WEST VALLEY CITY — A husband and wife were walking down Redwood Road in West Valley City on Saturday when police say they were both shot with a pellet gun.

Officers received a call reporting the shooting about 5:30 p.m.

The couple was walking north near 3330 S. Redwood Road when they heard a popping noise and felt impacts on their back, said West Valley Police Lt. Dalan Taylor. When the husband turned around, he saw a dark-colored passenger car, possibly a Mazda, driving away with some type of BB or pellet gun out the window.

"It doesn't appear that they were targeted for any reason other than they were walking down the road," Taylor said.

The husband was treated at the scene, but his wife was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with four or five penetrating wounds on her leg.

"There were at least two individuals inside (the car), possibly three," Taylor said, describing them as men in their late teens or early 20s.

Unified police received reports of a similar vehicle and a similar description of teens shooting a pellet gun out of a window of a car, he said.

Anyone who might have information is asked to call West Valley police at 801-840-4000.
