SALT LAKE CITY — Utahns gather each year to see the extravagant floats and the locals who ride on them in celebration of the Mormon pioneers who entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847.
The Days of '47 parade began in 1949 and was originally called "Pioneer Days."
The parade will take place Friday at 9 a.m. and will start at State Street and South Temple.
A sneak peek of the floats decorated after this year's theme of "Pioneers: Forging a New Frontier," is available at KSL.com.
Those who don't attend the parade can watch it live on KSL-TV and online.
Here is a photo gallery we have created that takes a look at the rich history of the festive parade.
