SOUTH SALT LAKE — A 38-year-old woman who family members had not heard from since Friday was found dead in her apartment Monday night.

Bhoti Subba was found deceased in her room, 2860 S. 200 East, by police after her cousin and estranged husband called with concerns, according to family members.

Friday night was the last time family members talked to Subba on the phone, said cousin Zit Subba. She would normally call at least once or sometimes twice a day. By Monday, after she had not called anyone, Bhoti Subba's estranged husband got Zit Subba and the two went to her apartment.

After being unable to find her, they called police about 8 p.m. requesting them to do a welfare check, said South Salt Lake police officer Gary Keller.

When officers arrived at the woman's apartment, the door was locked. After an apartment maintenance worker opened the door, police found the woman's body.

Zit Subba said Tuesday that his family was in shock and has no idea what might have happened.

Keller could not say Tuesday where in the apartment the body was found, whether there were signs of a struggle or whether anything from the apartment was missing. There were no signs of a break-in, and Keller did not believe there were obvious signs of trauma on the woman's body.

Because of circumstances surrounding the woman's death, Keller said, it was considered suspicious Tuesday.

Crime scene investigators were combing through the woman's apartment Tuesday morning. Any autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
