BOUNTIFUL — Police are asking for information about a hit-and-run incident that left a Bountiful woman in critical condition over the weekend.

"My cousin is laying in a hospital bed," said Kristie Banks. "Cannot do anything for herself."

Nina Jacobs was apparently walking near 245 S. 500 West just before midnight Saturday when she was hit by a car and left in the road, Bountiful Assistant Police Chief Ed Biehler said Monday.

Police have found no witnesses to the incident, but passers-by who spotted the middle-aged Jacobs lying in the street flagged down an officer making a traffic stop a few blocks away and asked for help, Biehler said.

"We definitely do not want people to drive away from any type of accident," Biehler said. "But one that is fairly significant like this ... it is frustrating for us."

Jacobs was taken to an area hospital where she remained in critical condition Monday, Biehler said. Police identified the woman, who lives about 10 blocks away from the scene, and contacted her family.

Investigators have been unable to learn much from Jacobs due to her injuries and a hearing impairment, Biehler said.

"We're trying to do everything that we can to try to solve the case," he added.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Bountiful Police Sgt. Troy Killian at 801-298-6016 or killian@bountifulutah.gov.
