SALT LAKE CITY — Kate Kelly stepped down from the leadership board of Ordain Women, a group seeking women's ordination to the LDS priesthood, and an organization she founded.

The following statement was posted to the group's Facebook page Saturday afternoon:

"After two years of dedication, hard work, and passionate leadership, Kate Kelly has decided to move on from her leadership role with Ordain Women and has submitted her resignation from the executive board.

"Since January of 2013, Kate Kelly has been an integral part of the Ordain Women movement. She was the catalyst and has served as one of our most recognizable voices. She has given her time and energy to help make this movement possible," the statement said.

No reason was given for the change. Attempts to contact representatives of Ordain Women were not immediately successful.

Kelly has long been the face of the group that twice sought admission to the all-male priesthood session of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' general conference. She was excommunicated from the church in June 2014. She currently lives in Africa with her husband.
