SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police gang detectives were questioning an adult woman and three teens Friday following a wild series of events that included shots fired and a short chase.

About 9:30 a.m., police received at least three different calls of shots fired near Mead Avenue (980 South) and West Temple.

"We got to the area and found shell casings in the roadway," said Salt Lake Police Lt. Mike Ross.

Witnesses said they heard shouting and arguing just prior to the gunshots, Ross said. They told officers they saw a white car speeding away from the area. Police spotted the car near 1300 South and got into a short chase.

Two occupants got out of the vehicle and ran. They were found hiding in a Dumpster near 1600 S. West Temple after residents pointed out where they were hiding, Ross said.

The vehicle was stopped near 1000 South and West Temple and two others were taken into custody for questioning. A gun was also recovered near 1700 South and West Temple where investigators believe the occupants of the vehicle thew it out the window while fleeing, Ross said.

No one was believed to have been injured in the shooting, Ross said. The incident is believed to be gang-related. Officers were questioning an adult and three teenagers.
