SALT LAKE CITY — A stolen trailer that contained the ashes of two children was located Friday morning, but boxes holding the remains were no longer inside, police said.

The Haulmark trailer, which was stolen Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, was found at 3160 Dorie Street in Millcreek, according to Salt Lake City police detective Dennis McGowan. He said the trailer was recovered by the Unified Police Department.

At the time it was stolen, the trailer contained the ashes of Amber Critchfield’s two children, who both died shortly after birth. She said the trailer was packed with various items because she was in the process of moving.

However, when family members arrived at the trailer Friday morning, the two boxes containing the childrens’ ashes were missing, along with other items, according to McGowan. He said UPD officers canvassed the area to see if neighbors knew anything about the trailer.

“Both police agencies are exploring and running down every possible lead because the top priority is getting these small boxes of ashes back to the family,” McGowan said.

Anyone with information about the trailer or the theft can contact the Salt Lake City Police Department by calling 801-799-3000 or texting 274637 with the keyword TIPSLCPD followed by any relevant information. The case reference is #15-119837.
