HERRIMAN — Police from a couple of jurisdictions are working together to determine whether the same group is responsible for a recent series of convenience store robberies in Salt Lake County.

About 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, five men believed to be in their late teens to early 20s — at least two of them armed with handguns — robbed a Holiday Oil, 5487 W. 11800 South, according to police.

"(Two) suspects demanded money and cigarettes from the clerk. Meanwhile, three other suspects came into the store, went to the beer cooler and stole several cases of beer," said Unified Deputy Police Chief Justin Hoyal.

Surveillance photos released from that robbery match the descriptions given of a robbery 2 ½ hours earlier in Salt Lake City. In that case, three men walked into a 7-Eleven, 490 N. Redwood Road — one of them armed with a gun — and demanded money while the two others took beer.

Unified police detectives believe the two incidents are likely related. Salt Lake police, however, would not say Thursday even though the descriptions seem very similar.

On Monday, two men walked into a 7-Eleven, 1157 W. California Ave. One man brandished a gun and demanded cash from the clerk while the other took beer, according to Salt Lake police.

The men in Monday's case were described as two Hispanic men, one 5 feet 3 inches tall, wearing a green shirt, white bandana and a blue hat. The other was wearing a tan button up shirt, tan pants and a black hat.

The thieves in the Redwood Road case were described as Hispanic men between 17 and 20 years old. One was 5 feet 4 inches with a slim build and was last seen wearing a black Nike logo hoodie with khaki shorts and white shoes, Salt Lake police said. Another was about 5 feet 4 inches with a slim build who was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, Levi shorts and a black bandanna with a white pattern on it. The third man was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue Levis, and a dark-colored New York baseball hat.

The three descriptions match three of the men seen in surveillance photos released by Unified police.

Another 7-Eleven was robbed about 6:20 a.m. Sunday at 209 S. 1300 East.

In that case, police say a Hispanic man between 25 and 30 years old brandished a gun and demanded money from the clerk. The robber in that case was about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build and black short hair. He was last seen wearing dark sunglasses, a gray long sleeve shirt with a thin yellow stripe down each arm, blue jeans, and a dark baseball hat with “Chicago” on it.

Anyone with information on any robbery can call Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000 or Unified police at 385-468-9814.
