HUNTSVILLE, Utah (AP) — Health officials are advising caution after a bat tested positive for rabies in Huntsville, a town about 15 miles east of Ogden.
The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports that a Big Brown bat was found in an area of privately owned cabins. It died by the time it was brought in for testing.
Weber-Morgan Health Department communicable diseases nurse Amy Carter says there was no known direct contact for humans or animals with the bat, but no one knows how long the bat was on the ground or if there were pets or children who came in contact with it before the animal was found.
The Utah Department of Health says bats are the primary carrier of rabies in the state.
