LOGAN — Edmund Faimalo became the third Utah State football player released from the hospital Tuesday, five days after a car accident that injured five Aggie student-athletes on Friday night in Trenton.

The redshirt-freshman defensive lineman from Riverside, California, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Friday night after he was riding in the back seat of an SUV driven by teammate Travis Seefeldt. Faimalo and teammates Adewale Adeoye and John Taylor, who were each released Sunday, were riding behind Seefeldt and former Utah State softball player Sarah Vasquez. The latter two remain hospitalized.

Seefeldt and Vasquez continue to improve at local hospitals, according to a statement from USU athletics.

The five athletes were returning from a trip to nearby Newton Dam Reservoir Friday afternoon when their Chevy Tahoe slowed at a stop sign at state Route 142 and Route 23. Thinking the area was a four-way stop, Seefeldt pulled into the path of an oncoming semitrailer-truck, according to witnesses.

The semi, which was carrying 52,000 pounds of milk, attempted to swerve but struck the SUV on the driver’s side and push it 75 yards into a nearby yard, according to a police report.

None of the five athletes was wearing a seat belt, according to police. The 46-year-old driver of the semi was not transported for care, nor was his 11-year-old son, who was riding as a passenger, according to police.
