BLUFFDALE — A string of “brazen” burglaries has law enforcement warning residents to lock their homes and vehicle doors.

In the past week and a half, Bluffdale police have investigated reports of five home and two car burglaries, according to Saratoga Springs police Sgt. Shane Taylor. He said the crimes span Salt Lake and Davis counties, with recovered stolen property coming from areas like Bountiful, Cottonwood Heights, Sandy and Riverton.

A group of four men enter through unlocked doors at night, often while residents are sleeping, investigators said. Security footage shows one of the men carrying what appears to be a handgun, according to Taylor.

“If the door leading into a residence is unlocked, they’re actually going inside the homes,” Taylor said. “One of our victims’ pants, which he had his wallet in, was next to his bed. They had taken his wallet, his iPhone that were next to the nightstand and left the residence — while he was in there asleep.”

Taylor said the people burglarizing the homes and vehicles may be posing as salesmen during the day, going door to door. He asked residents to call police if anything seems suspicious.

“I really firmly believe that they are in the neighborhoods during the day casing them out and coming back at night,” he said.

A stolen car containing purses, computers, cameras, bullets and other items was recovered in Bluffdale Tuesday morning, according to Taylor. He said the items were from Centerville, Bountiful and Herriman, in addition to Bluffdale.

“My advice to everybody is to makes sure your vehicles locked, your home doors are locked, your security systems are turned on and if you see anybody hanging around the neighborhood suspicious call the authorities. Let us check it out and at least field card these individuals and kind of find out what they’re doing,” Taylor said.

Anyone with information about the burglaries can contact the Saratoga Springs Police Department by calling 801-794-3970.
