SALT LAKE CITY — A clerk at a Walgreens in Salt Lake City stopped a robbery from happening by insisting the man pay for something before opening the register, police say.

Around 5 a.m. Tuesday, Salt Lake City Police were called to the store near 900 East and 2100 South on reports of a man threatening the clerk with a knife. The clerk refused to open the cash register until the man paid for something, police said.

Police say the suspect pulled out a knife and showed it to the clerk. But that didn't faze the clerk, according to police, who still demanded that the man pay for something.

Eventually the man ran off, police said. Police have not yet released a description of the suspect.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
