CEDAR CITY — Sheriff's deputies arrested a Cedar City man Sunday night who they say threatened to kill a man, and then called that same man after he was taken to jail.

The incident happened about 7 p.m. Sunday at Three Peaks subdivision near the intersection of 3500 West and 5600 North, about 5 miles northwest of Cedar City, according to the Iron County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said a man "had attempted to shoot another individual with a shotgun."

Iron County Sheriff's Lt. Del Schlosser declined to say Monday whether any shots were actually fired or how far the suspect took his alleged threat. "We're not releasing that at this point just because we still have some work to do on that," he said.

He noted that no one was injured.

When police arrived at the residence of the alleged gunman, Curtis Lowery, 28, was still present and was "threatening to harm himself," Schlosser said. Lowery was not barricaded and there were several other people in the residence at the time.

Lowery was "fairly cooperative" with deputies and was taken into custody without further incident, the lieutenant said.

After Lowery was booked into the Iron County Jail, he called the man whom he had threatened to shoot, according to investigators. Deputies were not releasing information Monday about what Lowery allegedly said.

"Not at this time," said Schlosser who said follow-up interviews were still being conducted by detectives.

Lowery was booked into jail for investigation of attempted murder, aggravated assault, witness tampering and intoxication.

According to court records, Lowery was convicted of DUI in 2010 and disorderly conduct in a separate case.
