SALT LAKE CITY — A customer helped stop an assault on a convenience-store clerk during a robbery Wednesday morning, police said.
Mohamed B. Mohamud, 18, entered a convenience store at 1270 S. Main St. and began taking items in an attempt to steal them around 1:28 a.m., according to the Salt Lake City Police Department. Detective Richard Chipping said when the clerk saw Mohamud taking the items, she confronted him.
“The male then assaulted the clerk and another customer interceded and convinced the guy to leave the store, at which point police arrived on scene and took the guy into custody,” Chipping said.
The clerk sustained minor injuries during the altercation, according to Chipping. He said medical personnel checked her out on scene and she didn’t need to be transported to the hospital.
Mohamud was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
