OGDEN — A man who pleaded guilty last week to brutally murdering a Washington Terrace woman killed himself in the Weber County Jail over the weekend.

Lyle Robert London, 38, was found dead in his cell just before 4 p.m. Saturday after he apparently hanged himself, the Weber County Sheriff's Office reported. London was being house in a maximum security unit as he awaited sentencing and had last been seen alive about 3 p.m.

The death is being investigated by the Weber County Attorney's Office. Deputies said there had been no indication that he was suicidal and he was not on special observation.

On June 15, London pleaded guilty to brutally suffocating and beating 32-year-old Lindsay Holbrook. Sentencing had been scheduled for Aug. 3.

In exchange for his plea, additional felony charges against London were dismissed. He also negotiated that an obstruction of justice charge against his wife, Shuree Laness London, 35, be reduced to a third-degree felony.

Holbrook's body was found March 1 when police went to her apartment, 374 E. Ridgeland Drive, to inform her that her car had been involved in a hit-and-run accident with Lyle London at the wheel.

Holbrook had been the victim of a financial crime being investigated by the sheriff's office before her death, and the description of a suspect in that case matched Lyle London, the charges state.

London initially told investigators he had been having sex with Holbrook at her home and fell on top of her, possibly breaking her neck. Holbrook was still making noises, he said, and so he put his belt around her throat, used duct tape to put pillows on her head, and then hit her several times in the head with a baseball bat, according to charging documents.

London then wrapped Holbrook's body in a blanket and hid it in a closet.

Shuree London is accused of helping her husband get money from Holbrook's accounts, all while knowing the woman was dead.
