EUREKA — Jeremy Evans is a free agent, but he’s back on the road this month traveling to small towns in Wyoming, Idaho and Utah conducting Jr. Jazz camps and clinics.
“My wife asked me if I really wanted to do Jr. Jazz again, and I said, ‘why not?’” Evans said. “I know how it is growing up in a small town, and thinking back, if I had an NBA player, what an impact it would’ve made in my life forever.”
Evans guided young basketball players and Jazz fans through on-court drills and even joked with several campers as he ran ladders and shooting drills with them.
“Not only do you show that you are an NBA player and a person just like them, but it’s nice just to be with them,” Evans said. “I feel like when I walk in somewhere, someone is surprised by how tall I am.
“Of course, the kids always want me to dunk.”
Evans did plenty of that on his trip. He said the camp circuit gives him a chance to see parts of Utah and the Intermountain West he otherwise wouldn’t be able to visit.
“Utah is a beautiful place,” Evans said. “I’m glad to not just be stuck in Salt Lake the whole time.”
KSL Sports went along with him from Morgan to Eureka to find out why he was hitting the road when his future with the Jazz is uncertain. Click the video to see highlights from the latest trip.
