ST. GEORGE — Five people were arrested Thursday during an investigation into a shooting that occurred earlier this week.

Police in St. George said they believe Riley Guerrero shot a 21-year-old man in the torso at about 3:50 a.m. on Tuesday near 400 East and 800 South. The wounded man was transported to a local hospital for surgery, but did not have life threatening injuries, according to the St. George Police Department.

During the investigation, police said they identified Guerrero as the shooter. Detectives spotted him entering a car with two other people Thursday, but Guerrero jumped out of the car and ran across someone’s yard before the detectives could approach him.

However, police said additional detectives in the area saw Guerrero enter a second car and followed him.

“When they had enough assistance positioned in the area detectives attempted to stop the car,” a statement from police reads. “The driver, later identified as Sarah Strem, attempted to evade the officers. Sarah drove approximately one block and took a wrong turn, ending up in a driveway and was no longer able to evade the officers.”

Guerrero was arrested without incident on suspicion of attempted homicide, according to police. They said investigators were able to locate the firearm used in the shooting in the desert area west of St. George based on information obtained during interviews.

In connection to the investigation, Nevada Jennings and Taylor Morrison were arrested on suspicion of felony obstruction of justice, while Strem was arrested on suspicion of felony evading and possession of drug paraphernalia. Chelsi Sorrels was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Eugene Paul Thompson Jr. and Seth Kimball Cox were both arrested on suspicion of felony obstruction of justice Tuesday after the shooting.
