MILLCREEK — A 17-year-old girl was killed Tuesday when her teenage boyfriend ran over her with an SUV, police said.

The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at 416 E. 3900 South, where Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the girl and her boyfriend, also 17, were involved in an argument.

"They were out behind the home where a white Ford Expedition was parked," Hoyal said. "At some point in time, the male ended up in the driver's seat and ended up backing over the 17-year-old girlfriend."

The girl, identified as Micaela Klalie Sigala, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her boyfriend was taken to a hospital with "minor injuries to his shoulder," Hoyal said.

Investigators were working Tuesday evening to determine whether the incident was an accident or intentionally carried out.

"We're going to be out here for several hours with our investigators gathering evidence to try and determine what happened," Hoyal said.

Sigala's boyfriend's name was not released.
