SALT LAKE CITY — Utah sophomore Brekkott Chapman has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2015 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Championship training camp in June.

The Roy, Utah native is one of 24 players selected to participate in the training camp from June 12-26 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 12 players will be selected from the roster to be on the USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Championship team, where the United States is the defending champions.

The team will be coached by Arizona head coach Sean Miller, in addition to Dayton coach Archie Miller and Providence coach Ed Cooley. The selected team will compete at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship from June 27-July 5 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

“It should be looked upon as a tremendous honor to be selected to tryout for this team, because the competition is strong,” Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, who chairs the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Committee, said in a statement. “Our committee does a great job identifying players who will represent our country in international competition. We know that even in the training camp, the competition will be fierce.”

Chapman had a breakout freshman year at Utah where he competed for a starting role on a Sweet 16 team. Chapman averaged 5.7 points and 2.3 rebounds, but was a viable threat behind the perimeter and a good defender.

The 24 players invited include 10 former gold medalists, including: Isaiah Briscoe, Kentucky; Jalen Brunson, Villanova; Terrance Ferguson, Prime Prep Academy; Harry Giles, Wesleyan Christian Academy; Josh Jackson, Prolific Prep, CA; Diamond Stone, Maryland; Caleb Swanigan, Pudue; Jayson Tatum, Chaminade College Prep; Allonzo Trier, Arizona; and Seventh Woods, Hammond School.

Newcomers include: Tyus Battle, Michigan; Justin Bibbs, Virginia Tech; Vince Edwards, Purdue; Jawun Evans, Oklahoma State; Riley LaChance, Vanderbilt; T.J. Leaf, Arizona; Silas Melson, Gonzaga; Malik Monk, Bentonville H.S.; Chinanu Onauku, Louisville; Eric Paschall, Villanova; L.J. Peak, Georgetown; Malik Pope, San Diego State; Thomas Welsh, UCLA.
