ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Testimony has begun in the trial of a 56-year-old Cedar City man accused of fatally shooting two people at a southern Utah home in 2013.

The Spectrum of St. George reports that Thad Robertson is facing two counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of 59-year-old Diann Bailey and 52-year-old Jeffery Lane Hardy.

Police say they responded to reports of a man who wanted to kill himself Feb. 15 2013 and found Robertson outside the home.

Hardy was found dead at the scene, while Bailey was airlifted to a hospital and died a few days later.

In opening statements, Iron County deputy attorney Candace Reid characterized the incident as "a case of a jealous boyfriend who was high and killed two people," according to the Spectrum.

Robertson's attorney deferred opening remarks.

In trial Monday, Robertson's daughter Nichole Carlin testified her father called her after the shooting to say he'd done something stupid and couldn't go to prison.
