SALT LAKE CITY — A woman who police say was hit by her boyfriend's car a week ago died Monday from her injuries.
Salt Lake police say the death of Audrianna Mains, 24, is now a homicide investigation.
On May 21, Anthony Robert Vigil, 29, of Salt Lake City, who goes by the moniker "Scarface," hit Mains with a 2000 Lincoln Town Car near 200 W. Mead Ave. and then fled the scene, according to police. Vigil had been in an argument with Mains' mother, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report, got into his car and drove towards her "with an intent to scare her."
Vigil then swerved before hitting the mother and hit Mains and her brother instead, the report states. Mains suffered two broken legs and a broken pelvis and was "rushed into emergency surgery without expecting to survive," police wrote.
Three children also witnessed the incident.
Vigil was arrested a short time later in South Salt Lake. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault.
Vigil has previously been convicted of assaulting a police officer, attempting to damage to jail, attempting to escape from custody and retail theft, according to court records.
He had not been charged as of Monday. A hold was placed on Vigil to keep him in jail pending the filing of official charges.
