SALT LAKE CITY — BYU’s all-time leading scorer is making the rounds on the NBA workout circuit. He's already worked out for the Mavericks and Suns, and he will work out for the Utah Jazz Monday, and soon, the Warriors and Grizzlies.

“They ask a lot about your personal life and what you do off the floor,” said Haws said on Cougar Sports Saturday.

As Haws goes through the workout and interview process, the four-year starter at BYU is getting more questions about his personal life than his ability to stretch his 3-point shooting.

“I think a lot of teams don’t want to worry about (your personal life). I’ve tried to live the 'right' life and hopefully I’m not too much of a troublemaker off the floor,” Haws said.

Haws is what NBA front offices might refer to as spectacularly boring — the highest of nonbasketball related compliments. In his 24 years, Haws hasn't budged the troublemaker meter — not in high school and not in college. He's polite and respectful in interviews, and the only time you see some uncontrolled fire usually comes after an especially hard foul.

After his freshman season at BYU, he served a two-year LDS mission to the Philippines — and if you want to have a good cry, just watch a few stories produced about him regarding his missionary service. One before he left, and another after he returned.

When teams are investing millions of dollars in a player, they want it all — skills on and off the court.

“I’m getting married this summer, so lots of teams like that,” Haws said. “I’m excited to be with my girl through this journey. It’s going to be nice having her along with me to support me and help me.”

What’s more nerve-wracking, preparing for the NBA draft or his wedding in July?

“That’s a good question. In a lot of ways, I’m kind of nervous for marriage — to take that next step," he said.

Haws knows he’s good at basketball, but has no idea if he’s a good husband.

“Exactly, I don’t know anything about that stuff," he said. "We’ll see how that goes.”

If past performance predicts future results, Haws will be just fine — on the court and off.
