HOLLADAY — The Utah Titans dominated the Jam On It basketball academy tournament over the Memorial Day weekend. The Titans, a club team consisting primarily of Olympus High varsity players, went 4-0, winning the championship game against the Sonoma County Cagers, from Santa Rosa, California, 74-52.

Jam On It is an AAU tournament held in Reno, Nevada. Teams from California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Hawaii gathered to compete in divisions ranging from 2nd graders to high school seniors.

Head coach Matt Barnes has been taking his club teams to Reno for tournaments for years to help them prepare for upcoming seasons. The Titans roster includes seniors Isaac Monson, Nate Fox, Miles Keller, Oscar Hogan, Adam Larson, Renin Keiffer, and junior Travis Wagstaff.

When asked if someone stood out, Barnes said it was a complete team effort. “Some of the kids played on varsity last year and played well together,” Barnes said. “We played a lot of good, athletic, quick teams and I’m pretty happy with how we played.”

John Larson, father of Adam Larson, said the team played extremely well. “They made close to 20 three-pointers, which would have broken the state record of 18.” Larson also said that the team has good guard play and a solid inside presence.

The true challenge next year will be replacing the 24.0 ppg and dynamic playmaking ability of Jake Lindsey, a Baylor signee and son of Utah Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey. “The other guys have to step in and play and take different roles,” Barnes said of his team taking on new responsibilities next season. “He (Lindsey) played almost 32 minutes a game last year. It’s always curious how you start the new year and you graduate your senior kids, how it’s going to go.”

The Utah Titans will host its own tournament, the Big Mountain Jam, at the South Towne Expo Center. The Big Mountain Jam will run June 23-27. The tournament will include high school age teams from Utah and other western states.
