PROVO — An 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly obtaining nude photos of underage Provo High School students and then sharing them, police said.

Carlos Manuel Felix, who was a student at the school when the investigation began, had nude photos of multiple male classmates, according to the Provo Police Department. Investigators said the juveniles took the pictures themselves, but Felix obtained the images through a third party or “fictitious online accounts.”

“After obtaining the photographs, Carlos then showed and distributed them to other Provo High students,” a statement from Provo police reads.

Felix also assaulted an underage female student who refused to help him obtain additional photos, according to police. Provo City School District Caleb Price said the female student was being coerced and bullied by Felix, but never participated in his activities.

“As soon as the district was made aware of what was going on with the students and the photos that were being taken we notified law enforcement and since then law enforcement has been the one investigating,” he said.

Parents of students in the pictures have been notified by the district, according to Price.

Felix was arrested May 14 on suspicion of four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, assault and 30 counts of dealing harmful material to minors. Another juvenile is also likely to face charges in relation to the incident, according to Provo Lt. Brandon Post.

Both Price and Post said it is always important to be wary of what is being shared with others.

“They’re getting to know each other through Facebook accounts, they're sharing photos through Snapchat — it goes as a good reminder that you should never take compromising photos of yourself, and people aren’t necessarily who they represent themselves to be online,” Post said. “If you do not know the person personally outside of an online environment, never send them photos of any kind.”
