LOGAN — When Tim Duryea ascended to the head coaching job at Utah State, he promised the Aggies would go after an upgraded non-conference schedule.

He will immediately begin to deliver on this promise.

Utah State announced Tuesday the team will visit defending national champion Duke Nov. 29, fulfilling a promise to “play games where national television was involved — games that are good for our players and our university.”

The game at Duke, whose tipoff time will be announced at a later date, will air on ESPNU.

“I am thrilled for our players to be able to have this opportunity, especially our seniors,” Duryea said in a statement. “When you talk about modern-day college basketball programs and coaches, Duke and Coach (Mike Krzyzewski) are the gold standard. To be able to go and compete on a national stage, in one of the cathedrals of college basketball, will be a great experience for our team and it is also a fun way for our fans to be involved as well.”

The November contest marks Duke’s second game against a team from the Wasatch Front in the calendar year. Utah lost to Duke, 63-57, March 27 in the Utes’ first Elite Eight appearance in 17 years.

The Aggies return five starters and nine letterwinners from the 18-13 team of 2014-15 — legendary coach Stew Morrill’s final season — including guard Chris Smith and posts Jalen Moore and David Collette.

Shane Rector, a junior college transfer from Miami Dade College and South Kent High School (Connecticut), also joined the program in the offseason. Sophomore guard JoJo McGlaston will not return to the team after receiving a release from the program May 1.
