EDMOND, Okla. — When Dixie State's softball team needed a calming influence in the circle, the Red Storm knew just where to turn.

Junior pitcher Aryn Feickert helped stabilize the Dixie State defense late, and the Red Storm scored five runs in the fifth inning to defeat California University (Pa.), 10-6 on Sunday afternoon and advance to the NCAA Division II national championship Monday at 11 a.m. MT.

Dixie State will face North Georgia in a game that will be streamed live on ncaa.com.

Feickert allowed only one unearned run, one hit and four walks with one strikeout to move to 20-5 on the year as the winning pitcher helped the Red Storm (52-7) advance to the national championship with a win over the Vulcans (43-13).

Marla Reiter scored the go-ahead run as part of a five-run fifth inning, and Dixie High alum Sheila Gelter capped the five-run frame with an RBI single to take an 8-6 advantage — and Feickert did the rest.

Dixie State softball becomes the first athletic program to compete for an NCAA national championship in school history. The Red Storm has been a member of the Division II Pacific West conference since 2007.
