TOOELE — A man was hospitalized and is now in stable condition after rolling his vehicle and being ejected following a collision with a parked semi truck on I-80 Friday night, police said.

At roughly 10:30 p.m. Friday, a man driving a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville westbound on I-80 near mile marker 29 struck a parked semi truck on the right shoulder, according to Utah Highway Patrol. The truck was out of traffic in the shoulder waiting for a maintenance vehicle, police said, and had its triangles out.

The sedan impacted the rear trailer in a side-swipe manner, and continued off the road to the right before rolling several times and ejecting the 45-year-old male driver, according to police.

The driver of the Pontiac was transported to a Salt Lake area hospital in serious condition, and has since been upgraded to stable. The driver of the semi truck was in the sleeper berth of the truck and was uninjured, police said. The names of both drivers have not yet been released.

Utah Highway Patrol is investigating whether drugs or alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
