BLANDING, San Juan County — Police have identified a man who was killed early Friday in San Juan County after swerving his vehicle to avoid a cow and rolling.

Andrew Askland, 63, from Arizona, was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger northbound Friday morning on state Route 261 at mile post 27 near Blanding in San Juan County, according to Utah Highway Patrol. Askland swerved to avoid a cow in the roadway, clipping the cow and running the vehicle off the right side of the freeway, police said.

Askland attempted to correct, and rolled the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt, and was partially ejected. He died from his injuries, police said.

No other cars were involved in the incident, and there were no other injuries, according to police.
