ALPINE — When former Lone Peak boys basketball coach Quincy Lewis left the Knights to join Dave Rose's staff at BYU, it left a void from one of the top coaches in Utah high school basketball history.

Lone Peak filled the hole by going to a one-time BYU-Hawaii standout.

The Knights have hired former Seasider David Evans as its next boys basketball coach, the basketball program announced via Twitter on Friday. Evans replaces a head coach who presided over the program for 12 seasons, a run that included a 250-45 record, seven state championships, 10 region titles and the 2013 MaxPreps national championship.

Excited about the hiring of @CoachDavidEvans as the leader of the Lone Peak basketball program. A new chapter in the history of #lphoops— Lone Peak Basketball (@LonePeakBBall) May 22, 2015

Evans wrapped up his Seasider playing career in 2000 after an LDS Church mission to Alaska, and he coached at his alma mater while [operating a successful construction company in Hawaii](https://newsroom.byuh.edu/node/2253).

When BYU-Hawaii announced it would discontinue its athletics program, Evans went to play for longtime friend Jay Marriott, who coached the Plymouth Raiders in England, in 2014.

Evans received his bachelor's and master's degrees in exercise and sport science from BYU-Hawaii, and he was studying to receive a Ph.D. in education at Plymouth University while working as a player/assistant coach for the Raiders.

Evans averaged 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds with the Raiders, but returned to the United States to pursue a coaching career closer to home — a move that brought him to the Wasatch Front.
