PROVO — A group of Utah seniors had their last hurrah before graduation by posting a classified ad stating that their high school was for sale, complete with their principal’s contact information.

The Timpview High School Class of 2015 has the right creativity to succeed in the world, as evidenced by their senior prank. A few of the students decided to have some fun with the Timpview High School principal, Todd McKee, and Tuesday, they posted more than 300 fliers around the school, advertising that the school was for sale.

“They had stakes out in the yard and had signs out in the yard,” McKee said. “So we took those down. And then that evening was when the KSL ad went up.”

The classified ad posted on KSL.com listed the school as a “nice, multi-family home” that includes “more bathrooms than you can use in a day.” The ad went on to say that the building comes complete with three gyms and rooms for woodworking, metal working, pottery and ceramics.

The Timpview graduation is being held Friday, coincidentally the same day the ad said the “tenants” would be evacuating.

“It’s fun,” McKee said, laughing. “I’m impressed with the writing. … We’ve had senior pranks, but nothing as unusual as this. This was pretty creative. … It was fun all the way up to the point that they used my actual name and cell number.”

With the school listed for $8 million, it attracted attention and McKee said he received more than 24 calls the first day the ad was posted. The calls and texts continued to flood in so he said he had to set his phone to “do not disturb” for three days.

“If I didn’t love this group of kids so much, I would probably be a little more annoyed by it,” he said. “I have two children of my own in this class and I’m sure they were part of this.”

However, McKee jokingly said he was disappointed with the low price listing on the ad.

“I joked with them that given that U.S. News and World Report ranks us as the best school in the state, I think $8 million is undervalued.”

Timpview has around 420 graduating seniors this year, McKee said. The graduation ceremony will be held Friday at 7 p.m.
