CEDAR CITY — Volunteers will gather Saturday to search for a 59-year-old woman who has been missing since April 28.
Volunteers will meet to search for Deborah Carver at 11 a.m. at the Southwest Center Behavioral Health Center parking lot at 245 E. 680 South in Cedar City, according to Shelley Sanchez, a friend of Carver who organized the search.
They will then search in the area between Sunset Drive and the water tower at 820 S. 420 East. Volunteers will be given a map, so if they find anything, they can mark where they found it, Sanchez said.
Sanchez is working with the Iron County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue for this event.
Cedar City police will also attend the search and will assist in training volunteers on what to do if they find any leads, such as not touching it so police can take over and collect evidence, Cedar City police Sgt. Sheldon Barney said.
Police have been searching for Carver since she went missing and have flown helicopters in the nearby foothills where she’s been known to go. They have also searched in a half-mile radius around her home, knocked on doors, and looked in backyards, homeless shelters and care and shares, Barney said.
Carver, who was last seen in Cedar City, is 5 foot, 2 inches tall, about 135 pounds and is described as a white female with blue eyes and gray hair.
Carver has early onset dementia and may be disoriented, Barney said.
Carver attended the tulip festival at Thanksgiving Point the day she went missing and was wearing a dark shirt with purple and white speckles with a purple jacket and blue jeans. Police found the purple jacket in her apartment, but she could be wearing the same shirt and jeans, Barney said.
Carver did not take her cellphone or anything with her, and Barney said there was no indication she expected to be gone long.
