FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — A 26-year-old Layton man is going to prison for shaking 1-year-old Aliyah Faye Wild and causing her death.
Tyler Ryan Geary pleaded guilty in March to a count of child abuse homicide and another count of child abuse. He was sentenced Thursday to two consecutive sentences of 1 to 15 years, with credit for time served.
Defense lawyer Fred Metos asked for concurrent sentences, saying Layton knew what he'd done was wrong and that he'd never been charged with a violent crime before.
Court documents show Layton called the child's mother, Jennifer Wild, while she was at work September 10, 2013 to tell her the infant had fallen.
She died a few days later of a brain injury consistent with shaking.
