PROVO — Provo Mayor John Curtis’ use of social media earned him a national award Thursday.
He was named the No. 1 “top elected official on social media” at the Golden Social Media Conference and Expo in Reno. It is one of nine Golden Post Awards, which were designed to honor local and state government agencies for their use of social media.
Curtis regularly uses his blog, Provo Insider, to discuss goals for the city, current events and a wide range of other topics. He also actively engages with citizens through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
“Mayor Curtis started his blog so residents could get to know him,” the award nomination for Curtis reads. “He is able to say things on his blog and on social media that he can't say to a formal camera and the press in front of him. He can joke and be quirky and poke and prod at sensitive issues in a way he can't in any other venue.”
This isn’t the first time Curtis has been recognized for his social media efforts. An article published by Forbes in August commended the mayor for his heavy use of social media.
You can follow Curtis on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
