SALT LAKE CITY — In honor of Child Abuse Awareness month, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated $100,000 to the Utah Children’s Justice Centers on Wednesday, according to a Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office press release.
The LDS church presented the donation to the center while touring and becoming more familiar with work the facility does.
Currently, there are 22 CJCs throughout Utah.
“As the District Attorney of Salt Lake County, I want to personally acknowledge the generous donation by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” District Attorney Sim Gill said about the donation.
LDS leaders want abuse victims to understand that there are individuals who want to reach out and help. No one needs to suffer in silence.
"We want to contribute today but it comes with such gratitude for what you do and when we think of the children, as I look at the faces on this brochure, they are real people with real feelings who have a real life ahead of them,” Rosemary M. Wixom, LDS Primary General President said.
The Children Justice Centers are established throughout Utah and support the investigation and prosecution of child abuse offenses, the press release noted.
“As a prominent member of our community, their generous act and stance against child abuse demonstrates the value of collaborative efforts to serve and protect the most vulnerable in our community,” Gill said. “The funds will directly support the important work of the Children Justice Centers, and will have a positive impact upon the children and their families who are the unfortunate victims of child abuse crimes.”
