WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman and two young boys were forced to hide under a blanket inside their home Friday afternoon while armed robbers made off with stolen electronics, police say.

Two white men who appeared to be in their 30s went through the front door of the home at about 4 p.m, showed the 70-year-old woman a handgun and demanded she hand over money and electronics, said West Valley Police Lt. Jeff Conger.

The woman complied, Conger said. The two men reportedly ordered the woman and boys to hide under a blanket as they exited out the back door of the home in the area of 5000 West and 3100 South.

The front door of the home was unlocked when the two men entered, according to Conger.

The woman and the two boys, both under age 10, were unhurt, Conger said. They stayed under the blanket for about 10 minutes after being ordered there.

The value of the stolen items wasn't released.

Besides their age and race, only a limited description of the men was available Friday evening. They were wearing jeans, the woman told police, but she could provide no other details. She didn't recognize the men, police said.

As of Friday evening, no other witnesses came forward to report seeing the robbery.

"We really don’t know exactly what the motive was or how they decided to picked this house to do this," Conger said.

Anyone with information about the case can call police at 801-840-4000.
