RICHMOND, Cache County — A man was arrested after a two-hour SWAT situation Friday.

The operation was part of an investigation into recent trailer thefts and stolen property cases, according to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office. It reported that investigators and SWAT team members contained a Richmond residence at about 7 a.m. while attempting to serve a search warrant.

One of the three men who was reported to be living in the home has a criminal history that includes “violent incidents with law enforcement in the past,” according to the sheriff’s office. There is also a felony warrant for the man’s arrest out of Idaho.

“Investigators attempted to call the homeowner out of the house,” a statement from the sheriff’s office reads. “After using bullhorns, loudspeakers, and phone calls to the residence, no contact was made with the occupants inside. At approximately 9 a.m., a window was breached and investigators attempted to make contact with the occupants again.”

Kurtis Joe Konkright, 52, emerged from the home about 10 minutes later and was taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office. He was arrested on suspicion of violating his parole and booked into the Cache County Jail.

The public's help is really what helped us crack the case.

–Lt. Mike Petersom

The man with a felony warrant was not at the residence during the SWAT operation, according to Cache County Lt. Mike Peterson. He said the sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate leads on additional suspects who may be involved with the recent trailer thefts.

During a search of the residence after the SWAT operation, investigators said they located stolen property, including tools and ladders. They are still working to determine where the items came from, but Peterson said investigators believe they are related to the recent theft of three trailers and two riding lawn mowers. The sheriff’s office posted about the thefts on its Facebook page at the beginning of April.

“All of those cases seem to be linked together right now,” he said. “We were able to recover one of the stolen trailers themselves and then there’s a number of pieces of property that we are still in the process of trying to identify what cases they belong to … but we’re pretty confident that most of them are related to the trailer thefts that we’ve been working for several weeks.”

Peterson credited the public for the progress that has been made in the investigation, which is still ongoing.

“The public’s help is really what helped us crack the case,” he said. “It was through the public being willing to call us and give us some anonymous tips and things that we were able to follow up on the leads.”
